SSD520 warm replug attack - ideas & feadback from intel yet?

$

Hi guys,

on the recent security conference, some guys demonstrated that the intel SSD520 can be unpluged from the original PC and then be repluged to the attacking PC.

http://www1.cs.fau.de/sed (Warm Replug Attack against Desktop PCs)

According to the described tests, other vendor disks firmware detect the unplugging of the SATA cable and lock the drive making this type of attack useless. Has anyone seen a ticket / bug yaddressing this issue? For it looks like a "bug" that can be fixed with a firmware update.

Thx

I'm using now IGP and Lucid Virtu MVP. It works, but I do not like when things are not as it should work. I sent an inquiry to Asus about this problem. Within 48 hours, promised to answer.

When I turn on Legacy BIOS and UEFI together, the error is not detected.

Hi Mark and thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, the latest Lenovo driver (as well as the one before that) was tried too, and the behavior is unchanged.

BIOS 0061 still disables support for addon RAID controller. How is this crappy board worth more than $150 if it can't support addon RAID controller while others can? Looks like everyone who wish to have more than two SATA 6G drives in RAID array must stick to 0053 or replace this POS.

Maybe the message you saw is related to this:

Secure Boot requires a graphics card with a signed option ROM - we can't launch the opROM if the code is unsigned (security hole).

@rbmorse Legacy BIOS mode is not the only option, he can use UEFI Boot but he must have Legacy Boot enabled as well, for the graphics card to work. But the best is to continue using IGP to boot Windows 8 and use ATI for games.

ok, so i installed the OS on a USB Stick and take the space of the 3Ware 9650SE as Storage

only. But here i get System freeze

The System (ESXi 5.0) boot normal, but after a few minutes the System hangs.

I tryed the last BIOS versions (archived and current) of the Controller but nothing.

Is it possible that the BIOS of the Board have a bug ? Somebody test a raid controller with two

SATA 160GB 2,5" HDD's with this Intel DN2800MT board ?

It seems the fps problem it is better than  9.17.10.2867 and more stable . Because my game setting i set the config is everything to be LOW*

Hi BW,

Can you give me a detailed description of what exactly the issue is thats occurring?  Also, can you include some steps to reproduce your issue?

Additionally, can you post a copy of your dxdiag on top of that?  (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information).  Just copy & paste it here and I'll take a look.

Thanks,

-Nic

Hi -

I'm still working to track down whether or not the driver supports Speaker Fill.  In regards to the problem where setting to 5.1 audio does not stick - I was not able to reproduce that here on a 5.1 setup.  Configuring and saving for 5.1 'sticks' after rebooting and power cycling the system. I didn't have the same model setup as you however. Do you have access to any other 5.1 system anywhere that you could plug your NUC into and see what happens?

Sorry for the long delay;  E6410 customer here, with network connection issues ( Win7,Win8 x64 )

Who is your internet provider?

Comcast has a nice technique of giving you rapid-boost network bandwidth for small downloads.

I'm sure it helps them manage the massive number of connections, but it is also very quick.

But ... if your download exceeds their limits, then they revert to "advertised" download speeds.

And ... I have discovered Comcast sometimes decides you are an "abuser" of their network,

and puts you on a black-list of some sort to slow your bandwidth substantially.

This I suspect is to conteract Bit Torrent abuse of their networks.

You have to call Comcast tech support and get yourself removed from that list.

It seems that the latest 'lsi-megasr-kmp-15.00.0927.2012-1' and prev ''lsi-megasr-kmp-15.00.0725.2012-1' only work with the SLES 11 SP2 install kernel 'kernel-default-3.0.13' and not any other kernel.  I'm trying to keep the SLES box up to date but cannot since the lsi-megasr driver will not work with any later kernel.  The latest SLES 11 SP2 kernel is 'kernel-default-3.0.51'

Could the developers update the lsi-megasr drivers to work with other SLES 11 SP2 kernels.

Now would be an appropriate time to do this.

Yes, me too.   Not always BSOD, but inability to boot ... random corruption of settings that get repaired by MS Network Troubleshooter.

The 2010 network driver identified earlier was for a particular Dell Tag number.

My tag is different .. the driver did not get updated, so I'm reluctant to install the "off-tag" driver.

When Dell scanned my system for driver updates, they did not identify the 8252LM card for update.

I totally agree with you, I think it's not acceptable at all what Intel does to its customers... But still, I hardly believe that there will be a lawsuit, even if I have to admit that I'm not really informed about that. And even if there is a lawsuit, Intel is a huge company with a lot of money, so they'll probably always be the stronger one. Well we can do nothing but hope, then even if there will be a suit, it will take forever until we'll get our part out of it...

But anyway, whatever will or might happen, if Intel doesn't look after their customers, it will come back to them pretty soon, and another company will take it's place, like as example AMD, and Intel will be a story of the past.

We are currently working to replicate this issue; so far we get the same result with BIOS version 0036. We will let you know as soon as we get further information or results.

Hi all,

The new BIOS version - 0036 - was posted a couple of days ago.  We have already had reports, however, that this one had no impact on some users' LAN drop problems.    Still... go ahead and try it out anyway.

We still have been unable to reproduce this issue here in our labs, so am looking for more information from users who are experiencing the problem. We need to be able to configure our LAN setup to match, so would need this type of info, if applicable to your situation:

- router make/model

- switch make/model

- are you using both wireless and wired? and if so, make/model of your wireless card

- operating system version

- connectivity (broadband, cable, DSL)?

- service provider

Thanks!

Ubuntu GMA 3600 driver

Dear Intel Representative,

I bought an Asus 1011cx netbook with Intel Atom N2600 inside. This contains the GMA3650/PowerVR

SGX545 GPU. The netbook is marketed as Ubuntu-certified, and comes with Ubuntu 12.04 preinstalled.

Since the current driver implements opengl functions in software, even the most basic OpenGL-accelerated software is unusably slow.

Please provide a driver that utilizes the GMA3650 OpenGL capabilities. I need this to use the netbook.

Regards,

Erno Szabados
