I also ran into the issue of continuous restarts after a Windows based flash update. I think the issue is related to XMP-1600 memory mode, as I repeated the procedure with memory in 1333 mode and it went fine!

So... some words of wisdom (althought I'm sure if you're reading this then it's too late):

A) Do not under any circumstances attempt a Windows-based BIOS update on any Intel 77 board. Use BIOS F7 method which is a LOT safer.

B) Prior to flashing, move memory sticks to bank 0 (black slots) and disable XMP-1600 mode.

Anyway, I was able to recover the BIOS with the following steps:

1. Download a latest BIOS as a .BIO file

2. Put it on a freshly formatted blank USB stick (I used FAT16 on a 2GB stick)

3. Stick it into the leftmost blue USB slot in the back

4. Remove all PCI(e) cards, disconnect all SATA drives

5. Disconnect all peripherals except the mouse, keyboard and display (plug display into MB)

6. Keep only two memory sticks in the black slots (keep blue slots empty)

7. Physically turn off the PSU (with the switch in the back) and remove the battery for at least 1 minute

8. Remove BIOS config jumper

9. Put the battery back it

10. Switch on PSU power

11. Press the power button

12. The board should stay powered, the USB stick, if it has a power LED, should become powered

13. After a while (30-100 seconds) USB should shut down

14. Wait 1/2 minute and physically turn off the PSU

15. Put the BIOS jumper back in (topmost position)

16. Turn PSU back on

17. The power LED (or the MB green LED) should start flashing

18. A flashing LED means BIOS flash is in progress

19. WARNING: A BIOS flash is a slow process. Especially BIOS recovery flash might take up to 30 minutes to complete.

20. If any LED is flashing, let the system sit for at least half an hour.

21. After a while your display should come to life! (make sure it's on )

So yes, it IS possible to recover from the flash of death. Good luck!

On ULV notebooks it depends also on power budget and cooling and not only on the driver itself. If a 15.26 or the 15.31 beta driver doesn't help, there not much you can do. You could try disabling SMT/CPU Turbo in the bios to give your graphics unit a bigger TDP headroom.

OK, I know this is a trivial question compared to the problems others are having, but why did Intel change the splash screen? I LOVED the skull logo splash screen, it had to be the coolest splash ever. Now it has been replaced with a mundane rectangular Intel Inside logo. Can I have the skull logo back, please?

The same problem with Lenovo Thinkpad x201 and intel ssd 320. Guys have you solve it?

1) I looked at the Technical Product Specification and it stated that the "Thermal diode [is] located on the processor die."  So if the CPU is not actually running like crazy, the diode on the motherboard is probably half-dead.

2) I have never seen an Intel fan turning at anything other than 1000 RPM (or thereabouts) at idle on a i5 CPU, but then again, I have only built a handfull of PCs, all i5-based.

3) This is a dual-boot machine with 8 on one disk and XP/7 on a separate disk.  8 is a new install and I just loaded Desktop Utilities from intel.com after filtering on DH67BL and then OS.

I am running that PC right now and monitoring temps in BIOS.  CPU idle temp is 55, even higher than I saw before.  PCH idle temp is 46, three degrees higher than I usually see on Intel boards.  The fan is turning at 1000 RPM.  The case is a three fan model, with the 120mm front, 120mm side, and 92mm rear running full-blast because they are connected directly to the PSU (in other words, airflow is not the problem).  I visually inspected all four fans; they are all turning.

Given the high indicated temps, I do not understand why the CPU fan is not turning faster.

The problem appears to be that Intel hasn't provided a platform key in the firmware, which I think they're supposed to do. (Or at least there should be the provision to generate one.) The same problem is also present in the latest BIOS release for the DH77EB.

Half the trouble is that reliable, informed details about Secure Boot are pretty thin on the ground and frequently contradictory. The Linux Foundation, for example, recommends: "To enable proper operation with open systems, all UEFI secure boot platforms should ship in setup mode, with no Platform Key installed. This enables the Platform Owner to take control of the platform securely by installing their own platform key or allowing the Operating System install process to do so."

You should actually be able to install a platform key in Windows 8 using the Format-SecureBootUEFI and Set-SecureBootUEFI PowerShell cmdlets, but it's a lot of faff for a standalone system and I haven't tried it. Fine for enterprises, but in my opinion the whole process should be either invisible or self-explanatory for regular users or it runs the risk of Secure Boot just being completely unused or - even worse - many users assuming they have Secure Boot enabled when they actually don't.

As far as I can see, then, in our situation the problem here is being caused by Intel. Who knows whether it's a bug, oversight or actual design decision? If anyone from Intel is reading this thread, I'd be very interested to hear their opinions.

I have a custom laptop with an MGM45WU motherboard.  A couple of weeks ago, the Intel 5100 WiFi adapter died.  I replaced it with another 5100 adapter.  After installing the adapter, I began having issues with booting up and shutting down the laptop.  When I boot the laptop, I receive a "ME is Initializing" message after the BIOS flash and then it hangs.  When I shut down the laptop, it does not completely shut down.  Windows shuts down and the monitor goes black, but the computer is still running.  This also happens when I close the laptop lid.  It no longer goes to sleep mode.  The only way to completely shut down the laptop is to unplug it and remove the battery.  This issue occurs 50% of the time when I boot up or shut down.  A few days ago, I reinstalled Windows hoping that would fix the issue, but it did not.  Is there a fix?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Laptop with i3-2330M (HD3000) on Win7 64bit and a PC with G620 (HD2000) on Win7 32bit

Using the latest driver (15.28.12.64.2932 and 15.28.12.2932) both showing the same symptoms

When i try to force VSync ON from the Driver (Intel Control Panel) games (at least DirectX games, not sure about OpenGL) such as JustCause2 will gets Black Screen (sometimes there are random R/G/B pixels at the left side of the black screen, little artifacts maybe?) when running in Fullscreen

Sometimes i can get back to Desktop using Alt-Tab/Pressing Windows/Ctrl+Alt+Del Buttons, but sometimes the desktop will remains black also

Having Vsync ON in driver, if the in-game Vsync is ON it may works properly, but if the in-game Vsync is OFF it will gets Black Screen

There is also another weird thing happened while i was having black screen (both in game and desktop were black), since i can't get the desktop to visible anymore, i tried to press the Sleep button, after WakeUp i can see the login screen, but after login everything goes to Black again and then i heard sounds like a USB device being plugged-in and out,in-and-out,in-and-out continuously O.o (not sure if it's related, never happened before)

These weird behaviors only happened when VSync is forced/always ON in Driver, using Application Settings changing in-game VSync ON/OFF doesn't have any problem.

Give it a try and you'll see what i'm talking about.

There are games i played which doesn't have Vsync option in the game, so i was hoping i can force it from the driver and i prefer VSync On instead of a tearing gameplay

Edit: Tested on Unigine Heaven DX11 Benchmark, the OpenGL interface didn't get black screen, but the DirectX interface does became black when i turn off vsync during benchmark (by pressing ESC), i guess only directx games that affected by the driver vsync bug.

This is funny,  I sent ASRock an email asking if they where going to add ROM switch to the X79 ex7, a week and a half and never replied.

So I extract the ROM, I notice there are both 2822, 2826, so I extract both, the goofs at ASRock have put in both ROMs in but never posted it in the BIOS update like they did with there other boards.

So I am running RAID 0, with the 11.6.0.1702 ROM, with the Beta BIOS, they also did a L1.73.

So it looks like TRIM is working.

Now I am on win 8, which last I knew wasn't suppose to support, optimize see's the RAID as a HDD.

*** Question for anyone who is running the 11.6.0.1702 ROM on win 7, does win 7 see the RAID as a SSD or HDD ?
