Thank you Edward.

However even following the readme.txt section 3.1.3 for SLES11 on RAID, XEN install did not help.

I still receive ' Could not find /dev/disk/by-label/mainos'

I've tried to use by-id, by-label, by-uuid, by-path for a XEN boot but no joy.

The system boots to non-XEN just fine, which uses by-label.  Use to have by-id before reinstall which worked for non-XEN.

Any more suggestions?

PS: how can I tell what system board?  S2600CP, S2600CP2 or a S2600CP4?  I need to ensure it is a S2600CP4.  Sticker under the stencil of S2600CP states 'PBA  E99552-507' and 'QSCP22001800'.

I managed to get a work around for this.

I was trying to do a system restore on Windows 8 but when I searched for "system" I found something called system refresh.  I used this option to set back the laptop to its virgin state which meant all my installed apps were gone. After this, I used the "SW Update" software which Samsung provided to update the Wireless LAN driver. The updated version of the driver is now v15.5.6.48 and so far, I am getting a stable connection with good speeds on my Series 9.

I am not sure if this will help out everyone else, but worth a try?

Hi Kartik

Glad this works for you. I am using updated driver versions v15.5.6.48 but does not seem to work for me! Did not roll back to system refresh but considering I already have the correct driver, the problem should not persist but it stays.

Yes it's S2600CP4. Did both sles11 driver and sles11-ext driver load successfully during installation?

Thanks for the system board info.

Yes the SLES 11 SP2 and the SLES 11 SP2 'lsi-megasr-kmp-15.00.0927.2012-1' was install during the installation.

I also tried by name (/dev/sda1). no joy.

Any more suggestions?

It appears the plugging in the HDMI causes dwm.exe to crash (immediately, don't even need to start media center now). I captured a crash dump and analyzed it and the stack trace shows that the display type change is detected and a call is made to VerifyGraphicsCapabilities which fails, hard. See below:

try to remove you bios jumper then get a flash disk put the 0097 bios on your flash disk then make sure that there is no other file on your flash disk. Boot your PC, then wait until the BIOS update finish and then that's it.

OK here is how I understand...

There are two drive diskette images in the driver package you need to load during installation:

1. megasr-15.00.0927.2012-1-sles11-sp2-x86_64.img. This is the normal SLES driver. Name of the driver is lsi-megasr-kmp-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64, which seems working properly.

2. megasr-15.00.0927.2012-1-sles11-ext-sp2-x86_64.img. This is the XEN driver. Name of the driver is lsi-megasr-kmp-xen-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64. Could you confirm if this one is also properly installed? .

Well figured it out here is what i did.

Run

msconfig

Boot

Advanced Options

Set the number of processors to 4

Unchecked number of processors box

Restarted, and i am showing 4 cores, and 8 processors in the processor diagnostic tool, SIW, and system information. Woo hoo!

Hey Paul, buy chance do you have both displays hooked up while you are booting, i ask because i had a similar issue. What i did was disconnect my secondary display, and my system started up again, i then extended my secondary display. Just a thought.

OK first of all, thank you!!!

It worked a little bit and let me explain why: After I updated the BIOS to the 215 (mine was 214) I tested it on some of my games, some of them performed admirably but others just no change.

But it all comes to this, I figured out where the problem lies. The black screen goes only when running the discrete GPU (the Intel HD) but with the NVIDIa thera aren't any problems.

I used to have the 14.51.6.5415 version of the HD graphics driver which is the one that came with my pc and the one that got a bit slower.

I'm now using the latest driver but with poor performance on games.

OH!

Ca I just install the lsi-megasr-kmp-xen-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64 beside the lsi-megasr-kmp-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64?

And why wasn't it installed when the 'Intel Deployment Assistant' was used and the XEN host was chosen?

Please check "Program and Features" by clicking on "Uninstall a program" from the Control Panel for "Intel PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth(R) Technology". Click on it to see the version at the bottom of the Window. It should read "Product version: 2.2.x.x".

If you have a older version, please install the latest version from here for your OS and reboot.

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=21713&keyword=bluetooth&lang=eng

You will see "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" entries in Device Manager if you have any Bluetooth devices paired already, and if any of them have Bluetooth services (usually some custom services) not supported by Intel Bluetooth Stack.

For some reason, the driver yellow banged. Let's try the following first

Lucky you, FWIW, you have the new OROM, which seems to not help at all! I was wondering about that, if it mattered. I forgot about the OROM version being listed in the... OROM display, Doh!

Well, tried the ASMedia SATA controller enabled with a drive connected, and... no IRST GUI, same error as I had previously. At least the OROM works in this configuration.

I looked through the release notes of IRST 11.7.0.1013, and I don't think I saw anything related to our issue, so no attempted fix for this apparently.  I wonder if someone with an Intel made Z77 board has this issue too.

I installed the lsi-megasr-kmp-xen-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64 so both are listed in the non-XEN boot.

Now when I boot into XEN, the system take a loooong time to boot, over 30minites and still no logon screen.  During the boot, this is displayed over and over again.

----

Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 00 on CPU 0.

Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled?

Dazed and confused, but trying to continue

------

The BIOS 'Power and Performance' is set to Performance.

any suggestions?

Re: What are the needed drivers for P45 chipset motherboard for Windows 8 running from Intel 520 Series SSD?

$

If you weren't looking for drivers for Windows 8, the answer would be simple. Intel does not list any IRST drivers for Windows 8 for the ICH10R that I can see.

A quick FYI, Windows 8 has its own new AHCI driver, storahci. I would suggest installing Windows 8 in AHCI mode, and just let this default driver load. But, it might not be compatible, Win 8 is new and not much information about it is available.

FYI, any Intel IRST RAID driver works fine as an AHCI driver, and does not need to be set to RAID mode to use, mode as the SATA mode is fine. TRIM is also not an issue at all, in contrast to what some think, TRIM works fine in RAID (called pass-through for single SSDs), AHCI, and IDE mode, as Intel has confirmed in the past. TRIM commands are issued by the Windows NTFS file system, not from the SATA driver. Some third part SATA chipsets/drivers may not pass TRIM, but Intel IRST and MS drivers with Intel SATA chipsets are fine.

The ICH10R was also used with the X58 chipset boards, and I have (or had) an X58 and G45 board, using the ICH10R. For the few remaining 4 series chipset boards Intel suggests this version of IRST:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=15251&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20%2864-bit%29*&DownloadType=

I've used later versions of IRST than that one on my G45/ICH10R board, such as the one listed for X58 boards:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20868&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20%2864-bit%29*&DownloadType=

I would suggest the IRST 11 driver to try with Windows 8. Microsoft is doing things differently (strangely) with Windows 8, in the past they have provided a tool to check the PC for compatibility with their new OS, like Windows 7 or Vista. MS did not do that for Windows 8, all they have is a database with entries provided by users that is supposed to indicate what software and hardware works with it or does not work. PC builders are unhappy with some board manufactures that are not listing drivers for Windows 8 that work with their boards. I imagine you are one of those too?

The latest Windows 8 IRST driver (second one released) is this:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22272&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=

I strongly suggest you read the Readme file on that page, regarding the requirements for that driver, such as specific versions of MS .NET framework. The corresponding chipset (inf file) installer is:

Download Center

The chipset files are difficult to specifically recommend. If you go with the Windows 8 IRST, you should use that installer. Actually, it might be best to first run the chipset file installer on your boards download page, and then run this one, which should update it as necessary.

With an older platform like yours, there are no guarantees about what will work. Windows 8 is new, MS is not helping much at all, so if you go beyond anything but the standard installation on older hardware, you are pretty much on your own.

Hi Karel,

There are 2 workarounds you can try, described in MS forums @ Intel 82566MM Network not working on Windows 8 - Microsoft Community:

1. Plug in power cable, set "Maximum performance" power plan, disable power saving in driver's settings. May require replugging Ethernet cable or restart.

2. Get USB Ethernet adapter.

Both of them are just workarounds. I hope someone from Intel will take a look at this issue and figure out a solution - it's probably can be fixed in drivers.

o.k i found driver location.

uninstalled it.

then i had still problem to install the new driver.

at the end, i'm not sure exactly how, somehow windows installed successfully the driver it's exe. i downloaded earlier.

now i have installed ver.8.15.10.2827 which i believe is the latest one.
