REALLY amazed at the number of NUCs getting bricked by this firmware - yet the site states nothing about precautions or requirements. Actually - site content on the Intel site for the NUC is fairly abysmal. If Intel intended these to be Windoze machines only they should put that in the product detail so people that don't run Windzoe don't buy them.
I'm not using 1066 or 1333 memory (mine is 1600) and I'm not running Windoze (I'm running Ubuntu)
I:
- went into the BIOS (v40) and set the video RAM to 256 - everything else was left as stock
- used the "F7" option to upgrade the BIOS
- it found the BIOS image on the USB stick, no issue
- it asked me if I wanted to update the BIOS
And it immediately rebooted, went to a "partial" Network Boot prompt. And sat there for 10 minutes.
Now - all it does is power cycle and "black" my screen for a few seconds. Can't boot USB, can boot internal mSATA - I don't even see the Intel splash screen anymore.
How do I un-doorstop my brand new NUC?
I was upgrading the BIOS as I'm having issue with the bluetooth keyboard I use (via USB dongle) that becomes extremely unresponsive when I plug a 256GB SSD into one of the USB slots..... Now I'm dead in the water.
