Even in a home setting, you may not want everyone who uses the WiDi adapter to be able to easily change the settings.  You may have kids or other people in your home who will change settings they should not (maybe by mistake) when all they need to do is connect to watch their videos and then disconnect.

As I mentioned before, even a home wireless router normally has a password on the cofiguration page so that not everyone who connects to it can log into the configuration page and change settings.
